The International Mugam Center has launched a new online project called “Pearls of Ashug Music”, which promotes our ashug art.
The project will include information on the history of Azerbaijani ashug art, its modern development, information about prominent representatives of this art, as well as both video archive and newly recorded performances of ashugs. The first editions of the project are dedicated to Kalbajar ashugs.
International Mugam Center Pearls of Ashug Music
Ashug art is one of the oldest fields of Azerbaijani oral music culture. The centuries-old history of our people, the struggle against foreign enemies, working conditions, weddings and knots are reflected in the art of ashug with colorful artistic colors.
As a result of the activities of the Azerbaijani state, especially Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, to protect, develop and promote the art of ashug, Azerbaijani ashug art was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2009. Giving such value to the art of Azerbaijani ashug is a celebration of Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage at the international level.
The International Mugam Center also implements projects promoting the art of ashug. These projects include a series of concerts entitled “Ashug Music Evenings” and round tables dedicated to the art of ashug.
